common, funny, embarrassed talk

I get common knowledge after I was embarrassed because of not knowing it. actually, these-days I haven't seen such situation a lot, but I have experienced a lot of happenings.

moreover, we need to make a clear definition of the word "common" for continuing the discussion. How many people should be for saying "it's common knowledge" ? How many times should it happen in the world for saying "it's common knowledge" ? really a lot of measure, there are. and not Only. although I know a rule of Japan and it's common in Japan, it can be strange in a different country. for example, I know couple of thousands of kanji, but I had said once I'm stupid to know such Kanji for only communication. at least for me, Kanji is normal, katakana is common, hiragana is necessary (roman letters too). It is incredible for me that there are some countries which people use only 26+ letters for daily communication.

and, also I am surprised because there are really no chance to learn, use, speak, listen.

rather my junior high school had taught me wrong things ! perhaps I could say google translate at that time, was already better than the teacher at that time.

but, I think, being embarrassed is important to brush it up. maybe I know "delicious" is not for friendly dinner while it's been taught in many Schools in Japan, because I used it. I know the strong meaning in "my" and "your", while once I had been taught "your country", "my friend".

Do you know what does "いい" mean ?  "good" ? Yes, it's "good".

but it often means "no thank you".

for example. if you want to accept a suggestion from friends, don't say "いい", but say "いいね" or "いいですね" . 

in this situation, "いい" means "no thank you", "いいね" / "いいですね" mean "sounds good !", "いいよ" means "I'll pass this time".

moreover, if we changes the pronunciation, "いいよ" can be "OK".

it always happens in any Yes/No questions. I recommend an another word for the answer if you face in such situations. you may say Yes/No in English directly. (I think Japanese is not so stupid, they maybe know at least "Yes" and "No". )

And, also I want to talk about "いい話". if we translate it directly, it means "good talking".

you can use it ....for example, when you read a book and you're moved / when you heard a good information from others. but if you use "いい話を聞いた", you will turn to a clever merchant. I heard this sentence, a lot of times, and what they wanted to say is "good to hear that. " because "聞いた" means "hear / listen", so, "いい" + "話" + "聞いた" is respectively "good" "talking" "hear".

"I won the lottery !"

"いい話を聞いた" (OK,OK....let's see... how to deceive... this guy...for money)

you don't want to be clever merchant just because you wanted to say "good to hear that." , aren't you ? you should use "いいですね" as "good to hear that". and, "よかったですね" / "それはよかったです" is also good.

and, I have to tell you about the difficult using of "いい". it is, a triplet of "したらいい", "していい", "してもいい". All mean "You can do". but slightly different. "したらいい" is close to "why don't you do that ? / How about doing like this ?", as if speaker recommends. and second one, "していい" means actually "if you don't have any idea, let's do that." which is a suggestion or a help, as if speaker gives you an easy, fair, reasonable solution. the last one "してもいい" has a bit passive image, like "You can do, but consider a bit, it's just a choice, still not the best way" although literally it means you can do, but essentially speaker want to say "let's continue discussion" or "we still have problem".

let's be embarrassed and know truth. I don't mind, we don't mind, embarrassed in a minutes, and then you can be proud of it permanently.

and, to be honest, you don't have to speak and understand Japanese. just know funny things in Japanese, and subject them to laugh with friends. it's enough !
